As the closing party of the European Jazz Conference, Tom Tom Discotec, together with Milieu Tropical & Frente Salsero, none other than one of the most important labels for reissues of music from Africa and Latin America: Analog Africa.

For nearly two decades, founder Samy Ben Redjeb has been tracking down lost audio tapes across the entire African continent and in Latin America. He unearths music that survived the 1960s through the 1980s in dark basements, dusty archives, or forgotten radio stations—and brings it back to turntables around the world.

The philosophy behind the Frankfurt-based reissue label is as simple as it is passionate: It’s not about trivial retro nostalgia, but about preserving musical heritage at the very highest level. Analog Africa tells the stories of pioneers who created masterpieces under often extreme political circumstances.
