Tom-Tom Discotec presents: La Recocha w/ Sandunguera (Cali)

There are nights you plan, and nights that just happen. La Recocha falls into the second category. On September 12, Tom Tom Discotec returns from its summer break, and Jaki opens its doors for a night that smells of Cali, of sweat and anticipation, of vinyl and bass.

Behind La Recocha are Frente Salsero and Colonia Caleña—two collectives that have been bringing Cologne’s Latin American scene together for years. Not as a folklore event, not as an exotic spectacle, but as what it is: a dance floor for people who carry music in their bodies.

The Frente Salsero team will be on the decks. Joining them is Sandunguera, who has traveled all the way from Cali. She’s a DJ, a dancer, a collector—someone who doesn’t sort records by genre, but by what they do to a space. Salsa, merengue, cumbia, old-school reggaeton: anything that makes the floor vibrate.

La Recocha isn’t a concept with a manifesto. It’s a Saturday in September, a basement in Cologne, a community coming together on the dance floor. The rest just falls into place.
