Altes Pfandhaus
From a former pawnshop to an intimate concert venue: Altes Pfandhaus brings jazz and chamber music up close, combining outstanding acoustics with a uniquely personal atmosphere.
Until 1999, the Altes Pfandhaus actually served as the City of Cologne’s municipal pawnshop. Afterwards, the building was transformed into a cultural centre. In the concert hall, arranged in a semicircle around the stage, audiences can get remarkably close to leading national and international jazz artists.
With its size, acoustics and facilities, the concert hall offers a setting previously lacking in Cologne for high-calibre jazz and chamber music concerts: intimate, yet fully equipped for professional performances. Accommodating up to 200 people, the audience is seated around the stage in three ascending rows, creating a unique opportunity to experience concerts up close and with exceptional immediacy.
