Wer erinnert sich nicht an die finale Film-Szene von Zorba The Greek, in der Anthony Quinn den immer schneller werdenden Sirtaki tanzt?
Wer kennt nicht die endlosen Treppen und den ewigen Wasserfall von MC Escher?
Dies sind anschauliche Ausgangspunkte für ein ganz neues Phänomen von musikalischer Unendlichkeit – einer gänzlich neuen Art des Musizierens in Zeit-Spiralen. HΞLIX nennt sich die Umsetzung dieses faszinierenden – non linearen – Musik-Konzepts, das der Kölner Musiker Sebastian Gramss seit Anfang 2022 erforscht und seitdem mit zahlreichen Musiker*innen realisiert hat.

HELIX Spiralen überlagern sich anschwellende und verblassende rhythmische Ströme und erzeugen den Eindruck einer kontinuierlichen Beschleunigung oder Verlangsamung. Alle klanglichen Ereignisse verschmelzen zu multiplen Accelerandi und Ritardandi.
Dieses weltweit neuartige Temposystem mit seinen faszinierenden Klangverdichtungen und Entschleunigungen wird mittlerweile von unterschiedlichen Ensembles umgesetzt.

Das HΞLIX Festival vom 3. – 7. Juni 2025 in Köln präsentiert erstmals einige dieser außergewöhnlichen Projekte.

Neben Performances von hochkarätigen Ensembles wie SLOWFOX 4, BASSMASSE, ORBIT, SWIFTund COILim LOFT (mit Musiker*Innen wie Hayden Chisholm, Julia Sanjurjo, Paulo Alvarez, Dodo Kis, Robert Landfermann, Enyalos Papadopoulos, Dirk Rothbrust, u.a.) findet auch das Release Konzert von STATES OF PLAY / METEORS neuem Album HΞLIX statt.
Als Warm up gibt die Premiere des HΞLIX– Dokumentarfilms von Maurice Graf in den Studioräumen von Sebastian Gramss einen tieferen Einblick in das spektakuläre Schaffen des Kölner Komponisten und Konzeptualisten.
Am gleichen Abend findet anschließend auch die Public Broadcast Session der Sendung Jazzfacts im Deutschlandfunk zum Thema HΞLIX statt.

Am letzten Tag (Samstag der 7. Juni 2025) rundet ein Colloquium / offener Workshop (ab 11 Uhr) zu den Grundlagen dieser neuen OPEN SOURCE Spiel- und Kompositionstechnik das außergewöhnliche Programm des HΞLIX Festivals ab. Die Moderation übernimmt Prof. Dr. K. Rainer Nonnenmann, die Musikern von SLOWFOX 4 werden ebenfalls teilnehmen.


Die Konzerte im LOFT beginnen in der Regel gegen 20 Uhr - das LOFT öffnet jeweils um 19.30 Uhr.
Ausnahmen - zB an Sonntagen - sind möglich.

Who doesn’t remember the final scene of Zorba The Greek, in which Anthony Quinn dances the ever-accelerating sirtaki?
Who doesn’t know the endless stairs and the eternal waterfall of MC Escher?
These are vivid starting points for a completely new phenomenon of musical infinity – a completely new way of making music in time spirals. HΞLIX is the name given to the implementation of this fascinating – non-linear – musical concept, which Cologne-based musician Sebastian Gramss has been researching since the beginning of 2022 and has since realized with numerous musicians.

In HΞLIX Spirals, swelling and fading rhythmic streams overlap and create the impression of a continuous acceleration or deceleration. All sonic events merge into multiple accelerandi and ritardandi.This worldwide new tempo system with its fascinating sound intensifications and decelerations is now used by various ensembles.

The HΞLIX Festival from June 3 – 7, 2025 in Cologne presents some of these extraordinary projects for the first time.

In addition to performances by top-class ensembles such as SLOWFOX 4, BASSMASSE, ORBIT, SWIFT and COIL at the LOFT (with musicians such as Hayden Chisholm, Julia Sanjurjo, Paulo Alvarez, Dodo Kis, Robert Landfermann, Enyalos Papadopoulos, Dirk Rothbrust, among others), the release concert for STATES OF PLAY / METEORS’ new album HΞLIX will also take place.

As a warm-up, the premiere of the HΞLIX documentary film by Maurice Graf in the studio rooms of Sebastian Gramss will provide a deeper insight into the spectacular work of the Cologne composer and conceptualist.
On the same evening, the public broadcast session of the program Jazzfacts on Deutschlandfunk will also take place on the subject of HΞLIX.

On the last day (Saturday, June 7th), a colloquium / open workshop (starting at 11.00 am) on the basics of this new OPEN SOURCE playing and composition technique will round off the extraordinary program of the HΞLIX Festival. The moderator will be Prof. Dr. K. Rainer Nonnenmann, the musicians of SLOWFOX 4 will also participate.




The concerts at the LOFT will generally start at around 8 pm CEST - the LOFT will open at 7.30 pm CEST.
Exceptions - eg on Sundays - are possible.
